Bulk Optimization
Optimize your entire media library in one go
If you already have images in your media library, bulk optimization lets you compress them all at once without slowing down your site.
Starting a Bulk Optimization
- Go to Compresso > Bulk Optimize in your WordPress admin
- You'll see a count of how many images are waiting to be optimized
- Click Start Optimization to begin
The process runs in the background using WordPress's task scheduler. You can close the page and come back later — it will keep running.
Monitoring Progress
The bulk optimization page shows:
- Progress bar — how far along the process is
- Images processed — number of images completed so far
- Total savings — how much space has been saved
Pause, Resume, and Cancel
You can pause a running optimization at any time and resume it later. If you cancel, all images that have already been processed will keep their optimized versions.
Retrying Failed Images
Some images may fail to optimize due to file permission issues or corrupt files. After a bulk run completes, you can click Retry Failed to attempt those images again.
Bulk optimization processes up to 10,000 images per run. If you have more than that, start another run after the first completes.
Re-Optimizing Images
Changed your compression settings? Use Re-optimize All to apply the new settings to images that were already optimized. Compresso will process them again with the updated quality levels.
Running Optimization on a Schedule
If you'd prefer not to run bulk optimization manually, Compresso Pro can do it automatically during off-peak hours. See Scheduled Optimization for setup instructions.
